Terms of Use
1. Acceptance of these terms
By installing or using Selene you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. What Selene is
Selene is a personal notes and memory app. You can write, dictate and attach photos and documents to notes, keep lists and action items, and be reminded when things are due.
3. Your content and privacy
Your notes, lists, action items and photos are stored on your device, and you can use Selene without an account. If you turn on Cloud backup, the text of your notes, lists and action items (not photos or documents) is stored in Google Cloud Firestore under your account so you can restore it on another device. You can turn backup off, or delete your cloud copy, at any time in Settings. You are responsible for the content you create and for keeping your device secure. Our Privacy Policy explains in detail how information is handled.
If you choose to create an account, we use Firebase Authentication (a Google service) to keep your email address and sign-in details, including your basic Google profile if you sign in with Google. You can sign out or delete your account at any time from Settings.
4. Permissions
Microphone: used only while you dictate a note. Speech is converted to text by your device's speech recognition service, which may process audio on the device or send it to the service provider (for example Google) depending on your device and language settings.
Camera: used only when you take a photo for a note. Notifications: used only to remind you when action items or notes are due. You can change any permission at any time in your device settings.
5. App lock
You can protect Selene with a PIN and, if your device supports it, fingerprint or face unlock. Your PIN is stored only as a salted hash on your device. If you forget your PIN it cannot be recovered, and you may need to clear the app's data, which deletes the notes stored on your device (notes you backed up to the cloud can be restored).
6. Your account
Keep your sign-in details private. You are responsible for activity under your account. You can delete your account at any time (see how to delete your account).
7. Acceptable use
Do not use Selene for anything unlawful, and do not attempt to reverse engineer, disrupt or misuse the app or its services.
8. No warranty
Selene is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that reminders will always arrive at the exact time (your device's battery and notification settings can delay them). Keep your own copy of anything important. You can export your notes as a PDF or data file at any time.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any loss of data, missed reminders or other damages arising from your use of the app.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
